The Karen Stevens Memorial Kid’s Triathlon was created in memory of Karen Stevens, a treasured member of the SPCC family.
Karen was gifted at teaching those with special needs because of her kind and patient nature. During her years at SPCC, she taught many children how to be safe and enjoy the water. Karen was an exceptionally dedicated, patient and a successful instructor. Sadly, in 2009 she passed away after a year-long battle with cancer. She continues to be remembered lovingly by her four wonderful children, her husband, and all of the many people whose lives she touched.
In 2009, the inaugural Karen Stevens Memorial kid’s Triathlon was held to honor Karen’s memory. This event has continued each fall since then, giving hundreds of children the opportunity to have fun and reach their goals. The triathlon is an exciting morning for children in the community to engage in a safe and fun triathlon. The proceeds from the triathlon go towards the Karen Stevens Memorial Fund, which use the monies raised to provide swim lessons to children with special needs in Anne Arundel County.
